Hi, I'm Jess Owens-Young!
I am a public health professor by day and an artist at all other times. My work captures the essence of living as a Black person in the US. I explore the different dimensions of Black life using acrylics, oil pastels, and inks. I also do some digital illustrations on the same themes. Some of my work focuses on life in the interior, including houseplants and other living beings.
Some of my influences are William H. Johnson, Elizabeth Catlett, Alice Neel, Jordan Casteel, Amy Sherald, and Henry Taylor, among others.
If you are interested in working together or in collecting some of my work, please feel free to follow me on Instagram or to contact me!
